Traditionally, the Christmas markets in South Tyrol is are an appointment absolutely not to be missed. Every year the most renowned South Tyrolean towns such as Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone, Brunico and Vipiteno, as well as some lesser-known but just as characteristic villages in the region, are decorated for the occasion, offering a very full calendar of Christmas-themed events and happenings. From 24th November, the streets of the South Tyrolean towns and villages will be filled with the characteristic and magical atmosphere of Christmas: the scent of cinnamon, spices, pastries and mulled wine, the sweet melody of traditional carols and an enchanting setting that will be the backdrop to this special time of year, that brings unforgettable emotions that warms the hearts and minds.
In each market you will find stands selling local handicraft, Christmas articles and typical food: Apple strudel, Zelten (a dessert made of dried fruit with nuts, pine nuts and almonds) and Lebkuchen, the famous spicy biscuits.
