Rasun Biotope

Biotope of Rasun-Anterselva: A natural jewel among woods and wetlands

Just a 20-minute walk from Rasun di Sopra, the Biotope of Rasun-Anterselva is a protected area established in 1973, covering 23 hectares at an altitude of 1,075 meters. Once a vast marshland formed by the silting up of an ancient lake — later partially drained in the 1960s to make way for agriculture — it now represents one of the few remaining wetland areas in South Tyrol, valuable for the biodiversity it hosts and for its ecological importance.

Between ponds, educational trails and views of the Vedrette di Ries

Set within a broadleaf forest and overlooked by the peaks of the Vedrette di Ries, the biotope offers an authentic nature experience. Inside, educational trails wind through the area — ideal for adults and children — where you can learn to recognize amphibians, insects and rare plants in their natural habitat.

Fauna and flora: An ecosystem waiting to be discovered

Among the animal species, you can spot frogs, toads, tadpoles, fish and dragonflies, while two plants stand out for their uniqueness:

  • Rosolida: a rare carnivorous plant that grows in peat bogs and captures small insects to survive;
  • Malaxis paludosa: a delicate marsh orchid with a very limited distribution, considered an endangered species.

This is a true oasis of tranquility, where time seems to slow down and every detail of nature reveals itself with wonder.

The Biotope of Rasun-Anterselva is the perfect destination for those who love unspoiled nature and wish to experience the magic of a fragile, precious ecosystem in the green heart of the Val Pusteria.
