Falzes: The sunny village of the Val Pusteria
Falzes, at 1,022 m a.s.l., is a charming municipality in the Val Pusteria that includes the hamlets of Issengo, Grimaldo, Molini and Plata. Located along the so-called “Sun Road,” this village enjoys a mild and pleasant climate, appreciated since Roman times. Resting on a natural terrace, it marks the endpoint of the scenic Alta Via di Fundres, a 64 km hiking trail winding among remote alpine huts, mountain lakes and spectacular peaks.
Between ancient history, protected nature and historic architecture
The village, first mentioned in 1050 under the name Phalanza, still preserves an authentic atmosphere and a rich cultural heritage. In the center stands Castel Sichelburg, an elegant building notable for its compact structure and decorative façade elements.
Also of great value is the Parish Church of St. Ciriacus, embraced by centuries-old chestnut trees that enhance its setting.
The hamlets: Between alpine lakes, rare trees and legendary castles
The hamlet of Issengo is known for its small bathing lake, one of the most popular spots in the area during summer. It is also a precious biotope, where protected flora and fauna find refuge, making it a perfect place for those who love unspoiled nature.
In Molini, despite its small size, two real treasures are hidden: Schöneck Castle, dating back to the early Middle Ages and believed to be the birthplace of the famous minstrel Oswald von Wolkenstein, and the majestic spruce Picea excelsa, unique in Europe for its slender, columnar shape.
Falzes is the perfect place for those seeking nature, culture and tranquility in an authentic atmosphere — a sunny corner of the Val Pusteria that will surprise you in every season.
