What to See in Chiusa
The Historic Centre: A Picturesque Village
Since 2002, Chiusa has been part of the prestigious association “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.” Its medieval old town is a maze of charming alleys, colourful houses, and artisan workshops. A curious fact: the narrowest house in Chiusa is just 3 metres wide and dates back to the 13th century!
Dürer Stone
The German artist Albrecht Dürer visited Chiusa in 1494 during his journey to Italy. Walking along the Dürer Trail, you’ll reach a panoramic viewpoint where the painter once admired and sketched the town. Although his paintings of Chiusa have been lost, a valuable copper engraving remains to commemorate his visit.
The Civic Museum and the Treasure of Loreto
Inside the Civic Museum of Chiusa lies the famous Treasury of Loreto — an extraordinary collection of artworks and sacred objects. It was donated by Queen Maria Anna of Spain to honour the wish of her confessor, Friar Gabriel Pontifeser, who was originally from Chiusa.

The Monastery of Sabiona
Accessible on foot from the old town, the Monastery of Sabiona is one of the oldest spiritual sites in Tyrol. Perched high on a rocky cliff, it dominates the valley and invites reflection and contemplation.
Today, the monastery is still inhabited by cloistered Benedictine nuns. The climb is short but intense, rewarded with silence and breathtaking views.
The Christmas Market: A Fairytale Event
In winter, Chiusa is filled with magic. Its streets glow with soft lights, the scent of cinnamon and mulled wine, and the Medieval Christmas Market transforms the town into a fairytale setting. Wooden stalls, live music, and people in period costumes create a truly unique atmosphere.
Unlike other markets, Chiusa’s is entirely designed in medieval style — even the decorations are handmade according to ancient local traditions!
Chiusa Awaits You
Between art, nature, and flavours, Chiusa is a place you won’t easily forget. Perfect for those seeking authenticity, culture, and tranquillity, it’s a destination to enjoy in every season.
