Easy stroller-friendly hikes in South Tyrol: A holiday for the whole family

Being parents of small children doesn’t mean giving up hiking! In South Tyrol there are many theme trails accessible to strollers, perfect for exploring the Dolomite nature with the whole family.

These are generally flat routes with suitable terrain, some passable even with traditional strollers, others more suitable for trekking strollers, which can easily be rented locally.

Stroller walk to Prader in Val Venosta

  • Location: Val Venosta – Prato allo Stelvio

The hike starts from the parking area in Prato allo Stelvio, near the public swimming pool. The trail is divided into three routes, which can be completed fully or partially. Following the full route, you’ll come across 19 themed stations with educational panels and interactive installations that make the walk even more engaging, allowing children to discover nature through play.

About 3 km from the starting point, a detour leads to a small lake, ideal for a lunch break with a view at the Fischerstube restaurant. What makes this trail special? It runs through one of the few floodplain areas in South Tyrol, featuring marshy landscapes and the striking sandy delta of the Rio Solda.

Walk under the chestnut trees in Lana

  • Location: Merano and surroundings – Lana (Foiana)

From Lake Braies to Malga Foresta: The beauty of Val Pusteria

This is not the usual walk around the Lake Braies—the famous turquoise lake in Trentino-South Tyrol—but a route leading to Malga Foresta, an ideal spot to relax and enjoy nature.

From the parking area in Prato allo Stelvio, the path follows the western shore of the lake, then continues along trail no. 19, which takes about 40 minutes to reach the hut. The path is slightly uphill, so a mountain or large-wheeled stroller is recommended for better stability. Once at the hut, the impressive Croda del Becco provides a breathtaking backdrop—perfect for a photo memory.

After relaxing and enjoying a good meal, return along the same route to complete a wonderful day surrounded by nature.

Useful information: the eastern side of the lake is not recommended for families, as it’s not accessible with strollers.

Starting from the parking area near the Pes-Pesc playground in San Vigilio, the trail crosses two suspension bridges over the Ciamaor stream, making it even more thrilling for both kids and adults. Halfway through, you can visit the Birds of Prey Park—a unique opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close and learn about their habits.
