Hay Baths

The benefits of typical hay baths have been scientifically confirmed by recent studies from the University of Siena, and they prove effective in treating rheumatism, dermatitis, and strengthening the immune system. But how does it work?

How Hay Works on Our Body

Hay is made up of flowers and medicinal herbs, including: Alchemilla, Genepì, Arnica, Gentian, Rennet, Thyme, Chamomile, Valerian, Sorrel.

Moreover, the presence of fossil corals in the Dolomitic soil enriches the soil with precious minerals, which are absorbed by the hay and released in the form of essential oils, coumarin, and glycosides. These elements help reduce inflammation and promote muscle recovery. According to a study from the University of Siena, conducted on 15 arthritic patients, 70% showed improvements after just three months of treatment.

What Are These Baths?

There are different variants of the classic hay bath, which, while maintaining the ancient tradition, has adapted over time to the needs of a more modern clientele. The classic treatment involves immersion in a bath of warm and moist hay, inducing deep sweating, and starting a detoxifying and regenerating process. The duration is about 50 minutes, and a cycle of at least 6 applications is recommended.

Other Hay-Based Treatments

For those who want to experience hay in a localized way, there are several treatments targeting specific areas of the body, such as hands and feet. Discover also peeling and massages that use the benefits of hay through oils, lotions, and essences, for a unique wellness experience.

Mountain pine

Pine Mugo: The Balsamic Essence of Wellness

A true lifeblood born in South Tyrol: the essential oil of pine mugo, a typical product of the Val Sarentino, is known for its balsamic and antibacterial properties. Besides its use in the production of grappas and herbal teas, this essence is ideal for treating respiratory problems and providing a general sense of relief.

One immersive treatment is undoubtedly the pine mugo bath: submerged in freshly collected branches, the body relaxes, and the mind frees itself in a unique relaxation experience. For those seeking a less intense application but still impactful, the treatment using warm pine mugo chip-filled cushions is the right choice. Placed on the affected areas (back, neck, legs), they offer complete relaxation, with benefits on blood circulation and cellular regeneration.

Aufguss: The Sauna Ritual

Aufguss is a German-origin practice that has become a wellness ritual in South Tyrol. During the sauna, the so-called Aufgussmeister (Sauna Master) transforms the treatment into a unique moment. Using ice or hot water mixed with aromatic essences and poured over the stove's stones, a regenerating and relaxing vapor is produced. The balsamic air is then directed by the Master towards the guests, swinging the wet towel with wide movements.

Natural treatments

Natural Treatments: Between Apples and Grapes

In South Tyrol, one of the quintessential food symbols is the apple. This product has been used since ancient times as a natural remedy for treating the skin and, more generally, for body care. Among the regenerative properties of the fruit, the many vitamins (vitamins A, B1, C, E) and various minerals present should certainly be mentioned. The combined action of all these elements provides both hydration and skin regeneration.

As for grapes, several establishments in South Tyrol offer treatments based on organic grape extracts, rich in polyphenols with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties. In combination with thermal waters, the effect on the skin is deep hydration and purification.
