The Apples of Val Venosta: A Symbol of Quality and Sustainability
For over 50 years, Val Venosta has been regarded as the queen of apples in South Tyrol. This is thanks to a unique microclimate, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year and limited rainfall (around 500 mm annually). These conditions create the perfect environment for healthy, natural, and sustainable cultivation.
The dry, crisp climate keeps pests to a minimum, making the use of aggressive chemicals unnecessary. To protect the crops, “good” insects such as ladybugs come into play — true natural guardians of the apples and now the official symbol of this precious fruit from Val Venosta.
Careful Cultivation and Quality Certifications
Respect for the environment, consumer health, and traditional farming methods is ensured by numerous quality certifications, including:
- EurepGAP (now GLOBALG.A.P.): ensuring food safety, sustainability, and traceability;
- IFS (International Food Standard): for quality control during product processing;
- ISO 9001:2000: for overall quality in the production process;
- PGI (Protected Geographical Indication): a European Union recognition guaranteeing origin and adherence to local techniques.
