Val Venosta Lasa

Lasa: The White Heart of Val Venosta

At 868 meters above sea level, Lasa (Laas in German) is a charming village in Val Venosta, internationally renowned for its production of pure white marble. This material, quarried from the Jennwand mountain, is considered one of the finest in the world — resistant, luminous, and perfect for sculpture. It’s no coincidence that marble from Lasa adorns cities such as Berlin, London, and New York.

Hamlets Between Nature and Tradition

The municipality includes the hamlets of Oris, Cengles, Allitz, Tanas, Tarnell, and Parnetz — small villages where time seems to move more slowly. Here, life is closely tied to the land and to craftsmanship. Among the local products stand out the Val Venosta apricots, famous for their sweet, intense flavor, ripening under the sun on dry, well-exposed slopes.

A Varied Landscape and Trails for Every Season

Lasa is distinguished by the diversity of its landscape: to the north, dry and sunny slopes host crops and orchards; to the south, lush forests surround the trails in a refreshing, tranquil atmosphere.

The Monte Mezzodì, which towers over the village, is perfect for scenic hikes and offers breathtaking views across the valley and alpine flora. The trails can be enjoyed all year round, making Lasa an ideal destination for slow and sustainable tourism.

Marble Everywhere: From the Church to the Pavement

Walking through Lasa, you’ll quickly notice how marble is not only an export product but also an integral part of the town’s identity. From the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist to the house facades and pavements, the bright white stone enhances every corner of the historic center.

Fun fact: the bust of Emperor Franz Joseph, placed near the local bank, was hidden in a barn during World War II to protect it. Forgotten for more than fifty years, it was later rediscovered and placed back where it stands today — a symbol of the history that permeates every part of Lasa.

Lasa awaits you with its marble mountains, peaceful trails, and the warm hospitality of its people — a small jewel of Val Venosta to be savored slowly.
