Tesimo: Castles, nature and panoramic views
Tesimo is a small paradise set on a sunny plateau at about 650 m a.s.l., surrounded by orchards, chestnut groves and peaceful forests. Here, time seems to slow down, nature takes centre stage, and the view opens wide over the valleys below. Despite its tranquil atmosphere, Merano and Bolzano are just 20 minutes away by car, making this destination perfect for those seeking relaxation without giving up convenience.
A land of charming hamlets
The municipality of Tesimo includes the hamlets of Prissiano, Grissiano, Narano, Caprile, Plazzoles and Schernag — small villages suspended between past and present, ideal for walks, hikes and rejuvenating stays.
Centuries of history on an ancient hill
The roots of Tesimo reach back to prehistoric times: on the hill of St. Hippolytus, settlements have been found dating to the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. The first written record dates back as early as 590 AD, during the Lombard period.
But it was during the Middle Ages and in the following centuries that this area experienced its greatest splendour — loved by nobles and aristocrats, it became an ideal place to build castles and stately residences.
A plateau of castles
Tesimo, and especially Prissiano, are known as the land of castles: here you’ll find numerous fortresses, some open to visitors and others transformed into charming hotels where you can truly sleep within the walls of history.
Walking along the trails between the villages, you’ll often come across towers, walls and hidden gardens that tell centuries of noble stories, legends and rural life.
Tesimo is a destination that blends landscape, culture and authenticity. It’s the perfect place for those who wish to recharge in nature, explore medieval castles and experience history firsthand — all just minutes away from the renowned towns of Merano and Bolzano. A small Alpine world where every detail exudes beauty and tranquillity.
