Saint Valburga - municipality of Ultimo

Ultimo: The Authentic Face of South Tyrol

Between 940 and 1,800 metres above sea level, nestled between the Adige Valley and the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale Group, stretches the Val d’Ultimo, one of the most unspoilt and traditional valleys in South Tyrol. The municipality of Ultimo has managed to preserve its deeply rural and authentic soul over time, offering visitors untouched landscapes, Alpine culture, and genuine hospitality.

The valley extends gently from Lana to the Cima Sternai (3,442 m), and includes the hamlets of Santa Gertrude, San Nicolò, Santa Valburga, and Pracupola. Each has its own character, yet all share a deep connection with nature, history, and tradition.

It’s the perfect starting point for breathtaking hikes surrounded by forest scents and absolute tranquillity.

It’s best known for the “Ultimo Winter School”, which preserves ancient craft techniques, the famous “Lamb Weeks” — a culinary event where restaurants serve dishes made from local lamb — and the wool and felt market, offering unique handmade creations.

A place where craftsmanship meets flavour and tradition is renewed with each season.
