Campo Tures: Nature, culture and authentic beauty in the Tures Valley
Campo Tures, the main town of the valley of the same name, is one of the most fascinating destinations in South Tyrol. Located at an altitude of 864 metres and home to about 5,200 inhabitants, it lies in the heart of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, a paradise of biodiversity among the mountains.
The natural environment, rich in forests, streams and snow-covered peaks, is one of the most exclusive and unspoiled in the region. It is the perfect place for those seeking clean air, peace and postcard-worthy landscapes.
The hamlets: small worlds to discover
Campo Tures consists of several hamlets, each with its own unique character:
- Acereto, the sunny balcony overlooking the valley
- Caminata di Tures, with its traditional farmsteads
- Molini di Tures, a centre of craftsmanship and agriculture
- Riva di Tures, the starting point for high-altitude hikes
These very hamlets fascinated the Kings of Saxony in past centuries, who chose them as a summer retreat. The Austrian poet and jurist Hermann von Gilm also found inspiration here for some of his compositions.

Rushing waters and medieval castles
The village is crossed by the Aurino stream, which brings energy and motion to the landscape. One of the most beloved natural wonders are the Riva Waterfalls (Reinbachfälle), easily accessible on foot via a forest trail: a rejuvenating experience for body and soul.
Did you know? The German name of the village, Sand in Taufers, means “sand of Tures” and derives from the area’s alluvial formation, the result of historic floods of the Aurino stream.
Dominating the landscape is the majestic Tures CastleTures Castle, built in 1130. Perfectly preserved, it can be visited both with a guide or independently, and hosts exhibitions, cultural events and medieval settings perfect for families and history enthusiasts.
Traditions, events and popular faith
Campo Tures is also a vibrant and dynamic centre, where the sense of community is expressed through engaging events rooted in local culture. Among the most famous:
- Snow Festival at the Speikboden ski area
- Good Food Under the Stars, a summer gastronomic event under the open sky
- Cheese Fair, a tribute to local dairy excellence
The inhabitants, mostly German-speaking, are deeply attached to their religious faith and traditions, as shown by the Parish Museum, which preserves ancient artefacts related to the churches and chapels of the valley.
Whether covered in snow or immersed in greenery, Campo Tures is a place that inspires emotion in every season. A journey here means discovering an authentic valley, where nature meets history, spirituality and the warm hospitality of South Tyrol.
