Christmas Markets in Merano
When the air turns crisp and the mountains are dusted with snow, Merano transforms into a Christmas dream. Starting on 28 November at 5 p.m., with the beginning of Advent, the Christmas Markets officially open — among the most enchanting in South Tyrol and part of the renowned “Five-Star Route” together with Bolzano, Bressanone, Brunico and Vipiteno.
The Passirio Riverside Promenade, the heart of the event, is filled with magic thanks to its lovingly decorated wooden stalls, displaying handcrafted creations, wooden, wool and ceramic items, and plenty of local culinary delights.
Scents and sounds of Christmas
Amid the aromas of mulled wine (Glühwein), spices, cinnamon and traditional sweets, every step in Merano during Advent is a journey for the senses. The Christmas melodies floating among the stalls, the soft lights, and snow gently falling—all combine to create a warm, intimate and unforgettable atmosphere.
Activities and experiences for all ages
Beyond Christmas shopping, the Merano Market offers a rich programme of activities designed for the whole family:
- Traditional cooking classes: learn to make canederli, Spätzle, Christmas cookies and strudel.
- Guided lantern-lit tours to uncover the city’s secrets and history.
- Creative workshops for children.
- Ice-skating rink in the scenic Piazza Terme, open daily.
A true wonder village where even adults feel like children again.
