Stoneman Trail: An adventure in MTB through the Dolomites of Alta Pusteria
Pedaling amidst nature, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes: this is the essence of the Stoneman Trail, a unique route through the Dolomites of Sesto, created by MTB champion Roland Stauder.
With its 120 km and 4,560 meters of elevation gain, the trail is a true challenge to be experienced in one go or over several days, step by step. An adventure every biker dreams of, enriched by the presence of the "Stoneman-dlan", the stone figures marking the way.
The legend of the “Stoneman-dlan”
According to a local legend, it was a cyclist too focused on himself who triggered the creation of this trail. While pedaling through the mountains, he ignored the beauty of the Sesto Valley. The Cima Uno, offended by such indifference, rolled a landslide of rocks. The biker was saved, but his bike was buried. Only then did he look up at the peaks, struck by their majesty. In respect, he gathered the stones, built small statues, and placed them along the trail: this is how the "Stoneman" came to be, silent stone guardians.
The stages of the Stoneman Trail
The 5 official checkpoints:
- Markinkele (2,545 m)
- Sillianerhütte Refuge (2,447 m)
- Passo Silvella (2,329 m)
- Valgrande (1,362 m)
- Croda Rossa Mountain Station (1,900 m)
Each checkpoint is a scenic and athletic milestone, nestled among valleys, ridges, and spectacular plateaus.

At the end of the route, based on the time taken, you will receive a trophy certifying your achievement:
- Stoneman Gold – completed in 1 day
- Stoneman Silver – completed in 2 days
- Stoneman Bronze – completed in 3 days
