Earth Pyramids of Renon: a masterpiece of nature

The Earth Pyramids of Renon are one of the most spectacular geological phenomena in South Tyrol. These unique formations, found in various areas of the Bolzano province, originated during the Ice Age, when the retreat of glaciers shaped the land, giving rise to long columns of clay topped by a large stone. This "natural cap" protects the pyramid from erosion.

Despite this, their appearance is constantly evolving: rain and wind progressively thin the columns, eventually causing their collapse when they can no longer support the weight of the stone. Shrouded in an almost martial atmosphere, the Earth Pyramids of Renon are a must-see when visiting Trentino-Alto Adige!

Where to admire them and how to reach them?

Along the Renon Plateau, the Earth Pyramids can be seen in three different locations:

• Soprabolzano, in the Rio Rivellone valley, accessible via a scenic thematic trail.
• Monte di Mezzo, reachable via trail 24 from Collalbo.
• Auna di Sotto, starting from the village center towards the Rio Gasterer.

An excellent opportunity to admire this natural spectacle is the Renon cable car, which connects Bolzano to the plateau in just 11 minutes. Another example of how the region perfectly combines efficiency and nature.
