Museion in Bolzano

Museion: The Heart of Modern and Contemporary Art in Bolzano

Since 2008, the Museion — Bolzano’s museum of modern and contemporary art — has been housed in its spectacular building on the Talvera meadows. The structure, an iconic glass cube, was designed by the Berlin-based architecture firm KSV Krüger Schuberth Vandreike, whose partners studied at the renowned Bauhaus in Weimar.

This extraordinary museum is not just a container for art but an architectural work that engages in dialogue with the city and its surroundings. The choice of an immense transparent structure reflects the desire to create an open environment where the boundary between inside and outside fades away.

A Borderless Museum: Fluid Spaces for Art in Motion

The interior of the Museion was designed according to principles of fluidity and openness, with no barriers between the various areas. Here, art intertwines with space, creating a dynamic and welcoming environment. The exhibition halls blend harmoniously with areas dedicated to events, educational workshops, a library, café, and bookshop, offering a truly immersive experience.

In addition to its temporary exhibitions, the museum houses a prestigious permanent collection, established in the early 1990s and now comprising over 2,500 works. This collection has grown thanks to donations, acquisitions by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, and two major private collections granted to the museum as long-term loans.

The Museion in Bolzano is not just a museum but a meeting point between art, architecture, and innovation. Whether you are an art enthusiast or simply curious, you will find an open and inspiring space ready to surprise you with visionary works and a unique atmosphere.
