Fruit-Growing and Rural Life Museums: Discovering the Traditions of Lana and Foiana
South Tyrolean Fruit-Growing Museum:
A Tribute to the Land of Lana

Located in Lana di Sotto, inside the historic Larchgut estate, the South Tyrolean Fruit-Growing Museum tells the story and development of fruit production in South Tyrol. The choice of Lana is no coincidence: this area boasts the oldest and largest fruit-growing zone in the entire region.
A Journey Through History and Innovation
Visiting the museum means diving into a narrative that spans centuries of agricultural traditions. The tour begins on the ground floor and in the cellar, where an exhibition reveals the deep bond between Lana and its land, showcasing ancient cultivation methods and tools once used for fruit processing. Moving on, the ground floor of the tower highlights a crucial aspect of South Tyrolean agriculture: the reclamation of marshlands, operations that transformed the area into one of the most fertile regions in the province.
Climbing to the first floor, visitors enter the heart of fruit-growing history, discovering how this activity has evolved from the Middle Ages to the present day. Through documents, tools, and historical images, one can understand the innovations that made Lana a center of excellence in fruit cultivation. Finally, a visit to the baroque hall, which hosts temporary exhibitions, and to the barn, where old agricultural transport vehicles are preserved, completes this journey into a world shaped by tradition, hard work, and ingenuity.
Foiana Farm Museum:
Rural Life Between the 18th and 19th Centuries

The Foiana Farm Museum, housed in a former rectory building, offers an authentic insight into South Tyrolean rural life in the 18th and 19th centuries. After careful restoration in 1977, the museum was opened thanks to the efforts of Horst Griesner and Karl Frei, with the support of Father Rudolf Lantschner.
Here you can admire tools, furniture, agricultural equipment, and everyday objects that tell the story of the simplicity and hardship of rural life in past centuries.
