As the number of faithful grew, the structure was expanded several times until it became a full-fledged church.
In 1678, the elegant bell tower was added, which still rises proudly above the village roofs. The current Neo-Gothic church began to take shape in 1870, preserving the 1670 altar area that holds the image of the Madonna and Child—a central focus of local devotion. In 1988, the nave was replaced with a modern structure, creating a fascinating dialogue between past and present.
The Memorial Chapel for the Victims of the Mountains
In the village cemetery stands a small yet moving chapel dedicated to the memory of mountaineers who lost their lives in the Val Gardena mountains. The names of the fallen are inscribed in a large brass book, a symbol of remembrance and reflection. During a restoration in 1993, frescoes over 300 years old were uncovered, depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. This hidden artistic treasure, surrounded by forests and meadows, adds a spiritual and contemplative dimension to any walk through this magical valley.
