Castel Corba

Castle Corba: Elegance and history among the vineyards of Appiano

Perched on a hill overlooking the Appiano plain, Castle Corba rises proudly and gracefully, visible even from the road thanks to its panoramic location. It is one of the most fascinating historic fortresses in the area, now transformed into an elegant hotel and restaurant.

The origins: A five-story tower

Built at the beginning of the 13th century by the Lords of Corba, the castle was originally a simple five-story residential tower surrounded by wooden buildings. Access was possible only via a staircase leading to the third floor — a typical defensive feature of the time. The living quarters were located between the third and fourth floors, while the top level served as a lookout and defense post.

Transformations over time

In 1834, the castle was expanded by Johann von Putzer, who added new rooms, including a chapel. A few decades later, in 1877, it passed to the Tessman family, from which the historian Friedrich Tessman descended. Since 1918, the property has belonged to the Dellago family, who have transformed the manor into a refined hospitality venue while preserving its original charm.

A castle to experience

Today, Castle Corba is one of the stops on the famous “Three Castles Tour” of Appiano, together with Castle d’Appiano and Castle Boymont. It regularly hosts classical music concerts, cultural events, and stays dedicated to relaxation and elegance. The castle is surrounded by its own orchards and vineyards, adding an authentic touch to the landscape.

Despite its humble beginnings, Castle Corba enchants with the harmony of its lines, its arched windows, elegant portals, and understated decorations that adorn the tower, now crowned with a pyramidal roof. A perfect example of how history, hospitality, and nature can merge into a place of timeless charm.
