Brixen Water Light Festival
One of South Tyrol’s most anticipated spring events is back: the Brixen Water Light Festival, now taking place biennially with an even more international and sustainable vision. From April 29 to May 17, the city of Brixen will light up with art, innovation, and meaningful messages under the 2026 theme: “Imagine Peace.”
Light art for a sustainable future
Artists from all over the world – including emerging talents from Ukraine – will transform squares, waterways, and hidden corners of the old town into evocative and immersive light installations. The works, created in collaboration with the international light festivals of Oslo, Copenhagen, Essen, and Pula, will explore the theme of peace through a powerful and emotional visual language.
What’s new in 2026: Sustainability tool
To make the event even more responsible, the festival will introduce a sustainability self-assessment tool, developed in collaboration with EURAC and the University of Innsbruck. This innovative model will be shared globally to help other festivals adopt more environmentally friendly and conscious practices.
More than art: A transformative experience
The Water Light Festival is more than just a visual spectacle – it’s a moment of reflection. Each installation invites visitors to see the world from a new perspective, blending light, water, and urban identity into one continuous artistic dialogue. With its medieval architecture and flowing canals, Brixen becomes the perfect stage for this visual symphony.
