Keschtnriggl: The Chestnut Festival
The festival takes its name from the Keschtnriggl, an old basket made of chestnut wood traditionally used to peel roasted chestnuts — a symbol of a culture rooted in respect for nature and its precious fruits.
A celebration of flavour, nature, and culture
Over two festive weeks, the program includes:
- Themed hikes through forests painted in autumn colors
- Gastronomic events featuring chestnut-based dishes (both traditional and creative)
- Concerts by local brass bands
- Chestnut Educational Trail in Foiana: a family-friendly path with 10 interactive stations
- Farmer’s markets and local crafts
The Grand Finale in Foiana
The highlight of the Keschtnriggl is the big celebration in Foiana: traditional music, rustic dishes made with chestnuts, local crafts, and the unmistakable autumn charm of Meranerland.
Don’t miss this vibrant celebration of South Tyrolean autumn — rich in color, scent, and flavor.
