Sellaronda Bike Day: Cycling Among the Giants of the Dolomites

Imagine an entire day when the roads of the legendary Dolomite mountain passes are closed to traffic and belong entirely to you, your bike, and the sound of your breath surrounded by breathtaking scenery. On June 6, 2026, the Sellaronda Bike Day returns – and for the first time, there will also be an autumn edition on September 12, 2026.

This non-competitive cycling event attracts thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world every year. They all come to experience the unique feeling of cycling in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site – this time with the exciting addition of a second autumn edition.

An unforgettable panoramic route

The circular route crosses four famous Dolomite passes – Gardena Pass, Sella Pass, Pordoi Pass, and Campolongo Pass – covering a total distance of around 53 kilometers, ideally ridden counterclockwise. You do not need to be a professional cyclist: the event is open to everyone, from experienced riders to families with children. The main goal is simply to enjoy the mountains freely and safely on two wheels.

Two car-free days: only nature and adrenaline

From 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, the mountain passes remain closed to motorized traffic. This allows you to immerse yourself in nature without noise, exhaust fumes, or rush.

Along the route, you will find refreshment points, technical assistance, and the warm hospitality of the Dolomite valleys: Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba, and Val di Fassa.

Tips for the Sellaronda Bike Day

  • Start early to avoid the midday heat.
  • Choose the right bike: road bike, gravel bike, or even an e-bike for less experienced riders.
  • Wear technical clothing and bring a wind jacket: at over 2,200 meters above sea level, the weather can change quickly.
  • Do not forget your camera – every bend reveals a postcard-perfect view!

The Sellaronda Bike Day is not a race: no race numbers, no stopwatches, no prizes – only the joy of sharing a special experience and cycling through one of Europe’s most iconic mountain landscapes.

Starting this year, there are now two opportunities to experience these roads without cars: an event everyone should try at least once in their lifetime, combining sport, nature, and spectacular Dolomite views.

Where to stay and how to participate

Many bike-friendly hotels in South Tyrol offer special packages for the Sellaronda Bike Day, including services for cyclists such as bike storage, workshops, energy-rich breakfasts, and late check-out.

Participation in the event is free, and registration is not required. All you need is a bicycle, a great passion for cycling, and respect for nature and fellow participants.
