Gustav Mahler Music Weeks 2026: Music and Inspiration in the Dolomites
The Gustav Mahler Music Weeks 2026 once again confirm their place as one of the finest and most atmospheric events of South Tyrol’s cultural summer. From July 11 to September 25, 2026, the village of Dobbiaco turns into a first-class stage for classical music and honours the Bohemian-Austrian composer who found inspiration here for his final works.
A festival in the heart of the Dolomites
The festival was founded in 1981 and takes place at the Grand Hotel Dobbiaco Cultural Centre. There, the Gustav Mahler Hall hosts high-quality symphony and chamber concerts. The 2026 edition opens with a concert by the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz conducted by Michael Francis.
Unique experiences
In addition to the concerts, the programme includes an international symposium on the theme “Mahler and Humour”, musicological lectures, and a musical walk to Mahler’s historic composing hut in Altschluderbach. It was there that the composer wrote masterpieces such as “Das Lied von der Erde” and the Ninth Symphony.
