Gran Fondo Val Casies 2026
From 28ᵗʰ February to 1ˢᵗ March 2026, one of South Tyrol’s most popular sporting events returns: the Gran Fondo Val Casies, a cross-country skiing marathon that, for 41 editions, has made the hearts of sports and nature enthusiasts beat faster.
Held in the heart of Plan de Corones, the race winds through the enchanting Val Casies, a fairy-tale landscape of snowy forests, picturesque farms, and majestic mountains.
A record-breaking event
With its 2,300 participants from over 35 nations, the Gran Fondo Val Casies is now the largest winter sports event in South Tyrol and the second most important cross-country skiing marathon in Italy.
The full course covers approximately 42 km, crossing the valley’s three main villages – San Martino, Colle, and Santa Maddalena – and can be completed in two styles:
- Classic style (CT) on Saturday, 28 February
- Skating style (FT) on Sunday, 1 March
Fun fact: For those who prefer a shorter challenge, there is also a 30 km route available, offering all the excitement of the competition in a more accessible format.
The race both starts and finishes in San Martino, featuring a technical course alternating between climbs, descents, and sprint sections, designed to challenge even the most experienced skiers.
A celebration for all ages
It’s not just for professionals! On Saturday afternoon, the Mini Val Casies will take place – a special event dedicated entirely to young skiers, allowing them to experience the magic of the Gran Fondo on age-appropriate distances.
This festival of sport and joy highlights inclusivity, involving entire families in a festive atmosphere filled with entertainment, music, and the genuine warmth typical of South Tyrolean valleys.
