5,300 years old and still not yet tired! The Iceman, also known as Ötzi, lures hundreds of visitors from all over the world to Bolzano on a daily basis. He can be admired in the South Tyrolean Museum of Archeology.
A show-course in modern design introduces various aspects of his life and his death to the visitors. This is living history! The exhibition was included as one of the ten most important cultural events in Europe by the New York Times.
The Iceman is one of the oldest mummies in the world. It was the first time ever, that scientists could examine a human being from the Stone Age.
The Conservation The mummy is kept in a highly technically advanced refrigerator. The conditions in this refrigerator were artificially adjusted to the climatic conditions of the inside of the glacier he was found in. Temperature – 6° Celsius, air humidity 96-98%.
The Clothes Trousers, a grass cape, a fur coat, a leather apron, shoes and a cap made from bear fur. The eternal ice has conserved Ötzis’ clothes. This is unique throughout the whole world!
The Reconstruction The true-to-life reconstruction of the Iceman is at least as interesting as the mummy itself. It shows Ötzi when he left for his journey 5,000 years ago. The Weapons By his weapons and equipment we can admire the advanced manual skills of the people who lived during the Stone Age.
