Egetmann pageant

Every two years the village of Tramin-Termeno hosts the most famous carnival pageant of South Tyrol: this is Egetmann.

This event is nothing for the faint-hearted! A multitude of figures animates the village street: Green and White Bear, hunters, carters, millers, “women” (actually disguised men) with baskets on their backs from which legs are protruding, the “Burgeletreiber” carrying inflated pig bladders on top of a stick, cooks, gypsies, witches, farmers… And above all the noise produced by “Wudelen”: a kind of beast-like mask with teeth that clatter to scare off winter and demons. An interesting fact – only men are allowed and they mustn’t wear masks that hide the face. Enjoy a day of carnival craziness!
